I'll Be Stenciling

So the powder room tile is in.

Ignore the icky yellowish trim.  That's going away.  So now that the tile is in I can truly appreciate how little wall space there really is.

Yep that's pretty much it except for the wall with the door which I couldn't take a picture of since the room is so miniscule.  I had my heart set on wallpaper, but I just can't justify buying the minimum 2-3 rolls that most companies make you buy for a room that would be good with probably 1/2 a roll.  C'est la vie.  So it's stenciling for this room.  Now to figure out which one.  Here's what I like:

The Willow Pattern from The Stencil Library.  I think it's pretty, but my husband hates it with a capital H.A.T.E.  He doesn't get chinoiserie at all.  I may have to override him on this one;)

And last, but not least,  the Butterfly and Peony stencil, also from Royal Design Studio.  This is the top contender since this is the only one that we can agree on.

I thought it would be easy to find a stencil for the room.  I was soooo wrong.  There are some really nice ones available, but my husband is being Mr. Picky and has vetoed somewhere on the order of 99.9% of the ones that I like.

Then I was thinking that I might try to freehand some design on the walls.  And returning back to reality...stenciling it is.

I still have to do something with the trim.  When that's done I'll tackle the stencil...when and if I can pick one.

  1. You'll get no help from me, because I love that chinoiserie. On the other hand, it should please your husband to no end that spell-check keeps trying to change chinoiserie to trichinosis.

  4. is that room big enough for sink AND a toilet?? They look awfully close together. are you doing a wallmount sink?

  5. I third it...chinoiserie. My husband doesn't get a vote in our home. Once in a while, I will paint something blue, his favorite color....otherwise, the one who spends more time in the house gets more say! Back to you walls, I am assuming that you will hang "stuff" on them...so even less of whatever you pick will show.

  6. Exactly, whatever I hang will cover up some of the stencil so my husband won't have to see all of it. I'm just going to tell him that if he doesn't like it, tough. There will be two toilets on the first floor so he can just use the other one.

  7. We bought a corner sink/cabinet. It's teeny weeny (the cabinet and the room).

  9. Don't hate me but I'm not sure any pattern on the walls would work when there's pattern in the wall tile/marble & the floor tile too...or it could be that now I live in Sweden I think everything needs to be white (which it does, ha ha). Sorry.

  10. I don't expect that everyone is going to tell me what I want to hear. If that bothered me I wouldn't allow comments. So I appreciate a different perspective on the room:) The great thing about a stencil is that if I hate it (or if you're right about too much pattern) then I can just paint over it. Thanks for stopping by!

  11. Darn those husbands! I too love the chinoserie pattern (although I like the others too). Good luck choosing. Btw, the tile is gorgeous!
