Just A Bit Of Housekeeping

What Do You Think?

I painted the bathroom the Pink Raspberry.  I don't know folks.  It kinda glows.   And, if my friend Ken is reading this...shut it!

Ignore the patch that I didn't paint and look at the lights.  They aren't pink, but they sure look like they are.  It definitely casts a pink color on everything in the room.  I was going to repaint it (and I still may), but I'm going to put some sort of window treatment up and a mirror/art (and finish painting-Ha) and see how I feel.  I really hate painting and am not really looking forward to doing it a third time.  Sigh.

And here's how the room is shaping up.

Got the carpet which was pretty cheap and looks fantastic.  And here's a peeky poo at how it's coming together. Yep, I said peeky poo.

I'd love to put this in front of the bed.

Super cute from Pier 1, but a bit more money than I want to spend.  Maybe it will go on sale?

Anyway, I'm taking a bit of time off for the 4th and the week after, but I hope to have the room wrapped up shortly thereafter.  All I have left is...
-bust out sewing machine to make curtains for bathroom window and pillows for room
-find art for room
-find alternative to Pier 1 loveseat or have sudden windfall of money
-find way to tone down glowing pink walls

I think that's it.  I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July!  Oh, and I added a bloglovin' thingy so hopefully it won't be crickets and tumbleweeds from now on:)

Which Would You Choose?

So I mentioned that I'm not in love with the guest bath color.  It's not bad in photos, but trust me, it's neon green and not good.  And, it doesn't play well with the wallpaper.  So here are the new choices.

Go bold or go home, right?  I'm leaning toward the Pink Raspberry.  Anyone want to change my mind?

Wallpaper. Guest Room. Bam!

Ok, so I've been on a bit of a hiatus lately.  What can I say?  I just didn't have anything that interesting to share.  That and I've been super busy living life.  Truthfully, my husband has been traveling a lot leaving me with my little nuggets to care for and I'm a horrible multitasker.  That being said, I finally got something done this weekend and it's a biggie...for me at least.

Yep, finally put up the wallpaper.  Oh, and never again.  From now on I'm saving my pennies and hiring it out.  What a giant pain in the you know what, and this was only one wall!  Granted I did save a lot of money doing it myself, and by myself I mean having my friend do most of the work since I had no idea what I was doing.

Next step is getting the bathroom finished up so that carpet can go in the bedroom.  I know carpet isn't in vogue, but it's the third floor, the floors aren't in great shape, and it's right above our bedroom.  Uh-huh, carpet it is.  Here's a peek at the bathroom.  I know what you're thinking.  What's up with the neon green walls? Let's just say, great in theory, terrible in reality.  I wanted to wait to see if maybe when it all came together...nope.  I'm going to have to do something about it, but I'm just not sure what yet.

Stay tuned.

Shared Big Girl Room And Nursery Reveal

I know it sounds strange to have a big girl room and nursery combined.  That's how we roll.  Seriously, that room is way too big for one kid.  I think it's actually the nicest bedroom in the house!  Now don't go thinking that the room will always look like this.  This is the neatest the room will ever be so I just had to document it on film.  Somewhere, off camera, there is a hunormous (ha, that's what my four year old says) amount of stuffed animals and toys that will be swinging from the chandelier in the near future.

The ceiling on the second floor is 10 ft.  That's a lot of fabric.  Luckily, the fabric I chose was $7.50 a yard.  What?  Yep!  Eventually I want to put a chair in that corner.  I just couldn't find one I loved.

I couldn't find the knobs for the nightstand.  Oops.  They're hiding somewhere.

I'm so thrilled to have this room done.  It feels like I've been working on it for months on end.  Oh wait, I have.  In case anyone is curious I'll tell you where everything came from.

-The bedroom furniture was from a couple of consignment stores with the exception of the Ikea Hemnes armoire and the changing "table" which was something I had laying around collecting dust.  All the furniture was painted.
-The walls are BM White Dove and the trim is BM White.
-The fireplace art is wrapping paper I purchased at Paper Mojo (http://www.papermojo.com/)
-The ottomans and the fireplace screen were purchased through One Kings Lane (I think.  Or it may have been Joss & Main).  I've seen the ottomans on the site several times since I purchased them.
-Yellow lamp is from Target and the little white one is from Home Goods.
-The fabric was purchased at Carousel Designs (http://www.babybedding.com/)
-The pennant banner was made by me:)
-Bedding from Pottery Barn
-Crib from Amazon
-I found the chandelier from an antique store
-Mirrors from Walmart spray painted
-Polka Dot roller shades from Smith & Noble

So that's it I think.  Another room down, several to go....

More On The Guest Room

Last time I gave you a glimpse of the guest room it looked like this.

Ha, I forgot about the bathroom.  Isn't she pretty?  Not!

And the closet.

And here it is now.  Nothing terribly exciting, but progress is progress and it makes me infinitely happy.
That back wall is the one that is getting wallpapered.  And no, the tub isn't staying in that room.

Improvements in the bathroom as well.  Just ignore the pink patch on the wall.  I had toyed with the idea and then decided against it.

That closet looks so much better except for the venting.  Whatever, it's a closet.  I'm going to try to not get too anal about everything.  After all, there is still a lot of the house that hasn't been touched.  Money pit!

It's a start anyway, and a huge improvement from what I originally showed you.  So here's the to-do list.

Bedroom
-Wallpaper back wall.  Waiting for the cutting for approval.
-Buy a light.  Still haven't picked one but I'm working on it.  I'm trying to find a semi flushmount in brass.  It's practically an oxymoron.
-Carpet.  So I'm not a huge carpet fan, but this room is right above our bedroom and it's the third floor.  I'm making exceptions.
-Finish up electrical.  Obviously this list isn't in order.  Ha!

Bathroom
-Pick a paint color.  Easier said than done.  I don't really want the same color as the room, but I may change my mind
-Tile floor
-Bead board
-Buy pretty much everything.

So, not a lot to do, right?  Heh.

Making A No Sew Personalized Pennant Banner

Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge DIY person.   I know my limitations, but that doesn't mean I can't be inspired by others' ideas.  Besides the poms that I put up (yes, I finally put those suckers up)  I wanted something else to go above the Peanut's crib.  Originally I was going to do some artwork above, but then decided that I really liked the pennant banner thing that I'd seen around the internet.  So I scoured the web looking for something fool proof.  I found it at Faye's blog Frugal Faye.  Simple, concise, good pictures, done.  I knew that this was something that my pea brain could tackle.  So now I will recap and show you what I did differently.

The first thing I did was measure where I wanted it to go.  Then steam came out of my ears and my brain shut down.  I have a science background and yet I can't figure out simple math.  Go figure.  I kind of winged the measurement thing and then crossed my fingers and rubbed a rabbit foot and whatever else you do for good luck.  Next I made a mock up of what I wanted it to look like.  I played around a bit with the size of the triangles and then decided to do alternating sizes.  Hey, why not?

Then I made the official template out of something I found in the rubble of homeless crap in our house.

Next I ironed my fabric inside out just like Faye told me to do.  I think it would have been fine to do it right side out though since I used a disappearing ink fabric pen for the next step.

I traced my template onto the fabric,

and then used pinking shears to cut out the triangles.

Now I'm veering from Faye's banner since I'm going to personalize mine.  I knew I wanted to have some lettering on the banner but I had no clue how to do it without making it look like crap.  Before I even started the project I thought maybe I would just have someone with more time and talent make me one on Etsy.  Then I had an idea (twirling my imaginary moustache).  I bought vinyl letter stickers from Michaels.  I know someone out there probably has an easier way of doing this, but this is what I did.

The fabric I was using for the letters was pretty thin so I took some lining fabric that I had leftover from the curtains and used stitch witchery to adhere them together.

Then I stuck the vinyl letters on, cut them out and peeled off the vinyl.

And yes, I really need to invest in a new ironing board cover.  C'est la vie.

Then I used the stitch witchery again to attach the letters to the pennants.

At this point I went back to Faye's instructions to finish up.  I opened up the pennant, put hot glue in the center and layed my cording down.

Then I used the stitch witchery (this stuff is kinda awesome if you don't want to sew)  again to keep the two sides of the pennant fabric together.

And voila!  Here it is hung in the girl's room.  One step closer to the reveal!

Thanks to Faye for making this so simple!  I encourage anyone looking to make one of these to check out her blog.
